US Government Accidentally Posts Nuclear Site Info Online

It is believed that someone in the Government Printing Office is going to have quite a bit to answer for, after a document containing information on all of the U.S. nuclear facilities was published on the Internet in early May. Officials from inside the government and the Energy Department seem satisfied that none of the published information would pose an immediate threat to national security, but there is some concern that having access to all of the information simultaneously would allow terrorist organizations an easier path to somehow compromising the U.S. nuclear network.

What is more disturbing is that no one seems to know just how the report was published on the Internet and how to prevent such issues from occurring in the future. Fortunately, the U.S. government has nothing but time on its hands and there will certainly be a long and exhaustive investigation into just how this type of thing can happen. And, eventually, a new report will be generated that deals with how to prevent other reports from being accidentally published on the Internet. You see the brilliance in all of this, obviously.

None of the sites listed and discussed in the published document are related to the U.S. nuclear weapons arsenal and all appear to be related to energy facilities and/or research facilities located throughout the nation.
